Few things go as well together as Sunday afternoons and pasta dinners. On Sunday, Feb. 4, members of the Mineola Junior Fire Department as well as members of the Mineola Fire Department got together to throw a pasta dinner that was enjoyed by hundreds of members of the community.

Village to Receive Share of County Sales Tax Revenue
Villages throughout Nassau County will soon be seeing their share of $250,000 in county sales tax revenue, which was a part of the 2001 budget passed by both the Democratic and Republican caucuses of the Nassau County Legislature as well as Nassau County Executive Thomas Gulotta.

Corpus Christi Goes 3-1 on Road Trip
Corpus Christi Boys Fifth-Grade Basketball Team completed its longest road trip of the season with two more wins, going 3-1 on this West Coast trip (west of Mineola!). Corpus Christi defeated a tough Notre Dame team 39-18 with Jimmy Murtha scoring a league high 20 points and Michael Diglio scoring a double/double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Tommy Flynn added seven points and three steals as he continues to show what a complete player he is and Frankie Lao played his usual aggressive defense. Brendan Reedy, being groomed for a guard spot, made his first start of the season and ran the offense without missing a beat.

Mineola High School Assistant Principal Reggie Carter suddenly passed away in December of 1999. Despite the fact that Mr. Carter was in charge of discipline, he ruled with a firm hand but friendly demeanor that had the respect of everyone with whom he came in contact in his short time at the school. The Reggie Carter Memorial Scholarship Fund was instituted in his memory. On Feb. 2, a fund-raising triple-header was held at the high school.
