Corpus Christi Boys 5th grade basketball team split two weekend games recently. Corpus Christi defeated St. Peters 38-24 with three players scoring in double digits in points. Jimmy Murtha had 12 and T.J. Gessner and Tommy Flynn each threw down 10 each. Chris Brostek had 4 points as he again penetrated the lane and Brendan Reedy contributed 2. Michael Diglio was a workhorse on the boards as he battled the twin towers of St. Peters.

Corpus Christi suffered its first loss of the season when they succumbed to St. Joseph's of Garden City 15-12. St. Joseph's smothering defense slowed down Corpus Christi's high powered offense and avenged an earlier defeat they suffered at this year's Holiday Tournament.

Frankie Lao, Alex Lopes and Daniel LaMonica did their best to put defensive pressure on St. Joseph's, but Corpus Christi was unable to get anything going offensively. On a positive note, Corpus Christi has passed the half way point of the season with a very respectable 6-1 record. Coaches Keith Gessner and Tom Brostek are very proud of the effort each of their players have demonstrated thus far.
