  • NEWS: Here Comes the Judge

    For over a decade, Scott Fairgrieve served the Village of Mineola as a trustee. Beginning Thursday, Fairgrieve is serving the residents of Nassau County in a new capacity. His new role requires him to wear black robes and sit on a bench. It requires him to hear both sides of an argument and methodically come to a reasonable solution. It is a role Fairgrieve is looking forward to as he serves in District Court of the 3rd District, which encompasses the entire Town of North Hempstead. FULL STORY

  • NEWS: Mayor Satisfied With Snow Removal

    Just two days before the coming of 2001, Long Island was hit with a major snowstorm, which dropped about 15 inches on Mineola. The village Department of Public Works was out at 6 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 30 and Sunday, Dec. 31 to clear the streets. At a public meeting of the village board last Wednesday, Mineola Mayor John P. Colbert and the trustees complimented the work of DPW Superintendent Tom Rini and his staff for the job done. FULL STORY

  • SPORTS: Corpus Christi Basketball Holds Holiday Tournament

    Corpus Christi boys fifth grade basketball team hosted its first annual Holiday Tournament on Sunday, Dec. 31 and won both games to bring home the Tournament Trophy. The first game of the tournament pitted St. Joseph against host team Corpus Christi with the home team coming out on top 29-24. Again Corpus Christi had a balanced scoring attack as 8 of 10 players ended up in the scoring column. Tommy Flynn led Corpus Christi with 7 points and T. J. Gessner followed with 6 points. Michael Diglio started the scoring for Corpus Christi with two early buckets for 4 points. Alex Lopes played some aggressive defense and contributed to the offense with two points. FULL STORY

  • SPORTS: Golf Team Wins $2,500 for Jewish Community Center

    Ron Cohen and his team of golfers won $2,500 for the Sid Jacobson Jewish Community Center recently at the Chubb Charity Challenge Golf Tournament in Winter Park, Florida. Ron is a vice president of the JCC and a Roslyn resident. The golf team is from Hiram Cohen & Son, Inc. of Williston Park and represented the Long Island branch for Chubb Insurance Group. FULL STORY
