A group of women returning from a wonderful Christmas concert at Corpus Christi Church given by the Nassau Pops Orchestra and the Mineola Choral Society treated themselves to dinner at the Davenport Press. Enjoying dinner were Mary Jane Deignan, Marion McCormick, Eileen Higgins, Olga McLees, Teddy McCormick, Eileen Leone and Mary McGregor. Also at the Davenport we met Claire Neylon and her daughter and son-in-law Marilou and Bruno Steblai.

Recently ran into Tom and Vilma Doherty of Andrews Rd. Tom was formerly an official with the Mineola Pool and is now in charge of the renting and upkeep of the K of C Hall.

When traveling along Route 80 headed for Scranton why do they herald the approach to the Delaware Water Gap for so many miles ahead? You see the first sign 76 miles ahead and to make it even sillier they remind you to keep in the three left lanes as if you were almost there.

Also on Rt. 80 when passing the city of Paterson, NJ you see so many great church spires in the distance. There must be about eight Catholic, Protestant and Orthodox steeples.

It was good to see Arthur and Sandy Epstein and their daughter Debbie honored at the "We are Mineola" dinner of the Chamber of Commerce for their work in providing so many coats for poor children with Randi Cleaner's promotion "Coats for Kids."

Tom Cooke of McKinley Parkway is getting around on crutches. Tom had torn cartilage in his knee. His knee replacement operation was the same as the one described in the "Health and Fitness" section of this newspaper. It was also performed by the same doctor at St. Francis. His business TK Gifts is being run by his able assistant Phyllis Alfiere.

Bill Greene of Jerome Ave., owner of Tsontos Furs, put on a fashion show at the Brookville Country Club with about 250 women in attendance. All proceeds were given to charity.

Ron and Kathy Woyciechowski of Beebe Road have an attractive Christmas display. All the figures were made by Ron. Quite a talent.

Veterans of the 5th Army of General Mark Clark who fought in the Italian campaign in World War II will be returning to that country for a reunion in June. Call Sy Canton, 432-3022, for details.

Ron Geoffrion of Washington Avenue injured his back while playing hockey for the amateur LI Penguins. Ron's uncle, with the same name, was a great star for the Montreal Canadiens and a member of the Hall of Fame.

Bill and Susan D'Avanzo enjoyed lunch at the Seacrest. His brother John Davanzo marked a birthday Dec. 9.
