Katherine Hock, a senior at Mineola High School, has recently been selected as one of the eight top female scholar athletes in Nassau County by a committee of Nassau County athletic directors.
Each year, the Women's Sports Foundation asks for nominations from Nassau and Suffolk high schools. Criteria includes grade point average, leadership, community/school service and athletic participation with honors. All female nominees undergo an interview before being selected.
In honor of this selection, athletes are invited to attend by limousine the Women's Sports Foundation's Awards banquet held at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City. Professional and amateur female athletes were also honored. Some of the other honorees included Serena and Venus Williams, Mia Hamm, Chamique Holdsclaw and several Olympian medal winners.
Miss Hock's school activities include varsity soccer, basketball and lacrosse. She is also the S.O. vice president, an officer of the key club, member of Athletes Helping Athletes and the National Honor Society.
