The Nassau Pops Symphony Orchestra teamed up with the Mineola Choral Society to perform a holiday concert at the Corpus Christi Church that has become of one Mineola's greatest holiday traditions.
On Sunday afternoon, Dec. 10, the Corpus Christi Church was filled with the sounds of Christmas. The Nassau Pops' Christmas compilations coupled with the powerful singing of the Mineola Choral Society were enough to put anyone in the holiday spirit as the warmth of Christmas was spread throughout the church.
The concert began with the Nassau Pops, under the direction of Lou Panacciulli, performing A Christmas Festival followed by selections from the Nutcracker Suite.
The Mineola Choral Society, under the direction of Martha Regelmann, sang some holiday classics such as Silver Bells. Other holiday classics such as The Christmas Song and O Holy Night were sung by Terrence Goff and Kate Beckman. The concert ended with the packed audience joining in to sing Joy to the World, O Come All Ye Faithful, Hark! The Herald Angels Sing and Silent Night.
Father Kenneth Winkler was thanked for his hospitality and the performers all received a hearty ovation from the crowd that packed Corpus Christi.
Trees have been decorated and lighted throughout the village and lights have been strung on the outsides of homes. Those who attended the concert knew that Christmas had come when the music of the holidays was heard and felt.
