Recognizing Community Leaders
It's not often that many of the community's leaders and well respected citizens gather in once place. But on Tuesday, Dec. 5 various community leaders and some members of Mineola's well respected organizations came together at Chateau Briand in Carle Place for the 4th Annual "We are Mineola" Dinner Dance, which recognized several community members for their contributions to the community.

Winthrop Lights Tree, Kicks Off Holiday Season
Those that gathered around the main entrance of Winthrop-University Hospital in the chilly December air couldn't help but get a sense of warmth when they heard the Mineola High School Chorus, under the direction of Vaughn Fritts, sing Christmas carols and they saw the 45-foot evergreen tree come alive with the lights that are symbolic of peace and hope.

Mineola High School Girls Lacrosse
The Mineola High School Girls' Lacrosse Team traveled to the University of Massachusetts' campus to compete in the 2000 Wild Side Lacrosse Tournament. The team went undefeated in its seven games of play. This record was made possible by the strong offensive playing of Katherine Hock, Jamie Carter, Deena Veezo, Mary Warner, Vikki Montelbano and Theresa Dolan. The ladies were able to curtail the goal scoring attempts of their opponents through the great defensive efforts of Lauren Anderson, Elena Nuzzi, Nicole Tabasis and goalie Ali Murphy. Mineola Winter Sports Season Opens
The high school winter sports season is tipping off all around Nassau County. The first team to get going at Mineola High School is the girl's bowling team. The Lady Mustangs opened up with an 8-3 victory over North Shore. Joanna Errico, Jennifer Pirrone, Christina Schulze and Rebecca Madson steamrolled their opponents. Madson started her first varsity match and put in an outstanding effort in the third and deciding game to seal the win for the Mustangs.
