Some of our streets are named after farmers and/or merchants who "settled" in Mineola.
Millington Place: Fred Millington was a shopkeeper in the 1850s who operated a sash and blind store on the southeastern corner of Main and Third Streets. He lived nearby on Main Street (as an aside there is a Millington, Tennessee and Millington Michigan).
Simonson Road: The Simonson farm was on the northside of Jericho Turnpike (opposite Chaminade High School ) William Simonson was a gunsmith and his sons, Bergen , taught school and William Jr. was a banker.
Albertson Place: Thomas W. Albertson was a farmer and the owner of a grist mill. The "main" house was located on the northeast corner of Roslyn Road and Old Country Road.
Krug Place: Krug's Corner Hotel was on the corner of Willis Avenue and Jericho Turnpike. Philip N. Krug was the president (mayor) of Mineola in 1926.
Jerome Avenue: Some are of the view that this avenue was named after a Mr. Jerome who operated a machine shop in our village in the 1850s.
When you purchased your home the legal description oftentimes referenced a street which didn't match your current street address.

The Annual Tree Lighting will be held on Dec. 8 at 6 p.m. at the Community Center, 155 Washington Avenue, Mineola. Everyone is invited to attend and welcome Santa to town.
Winthrop-University Hospital department of Pediatrics will present a program on Wednesday, Dec. 13, entitled "The Endless Bedtime Routine & Picky Eater... What to Do."
Dr. Prasad will discuss ways to address sleeping and eating problems in young children. Special topics include; dealing with picky eaters, getting your child to go to sleep and stay asleep, and developing a bedtime routine.
