Veterans Day is on Saturday, Nov. 11. The freedoms we enjoy today are the result of the sacrifices that our veterans endured.

The public is cordially invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 11:00 a.m. in Memorial Park.

The application to erect a new one story building at 410 Jericho Turnpike for a CVS Pharmacy is scheduled to be heard at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 15 at the Village Hall, 155 Washington Avenue.

The public is encouraged to attend.

Diabetes is more than an elevated blood sugar condition. Diabetes has other medical concerns that need careful monitoring. That is why it is important for seniors to understand what can accompany diabetes. Seniors who suffer from diabetes can learn about these complications by attending Winthrop Hospital's free "Health Update for Seniors" lecture on Wednesday, Nov. 15. This lecture will be held at the Mineola Community Center, 155 Washington Avenue. The program starts at 1:15 p.m. with blood pressure checks and registration. The lecture starts at 1:45 p.m.

The Mineola Mustang Run will be held on Sunday, Nov. 19. Please check in the day of the race at the Mineola Middle School for numbers and shirts.

The "1 Mile Fun Run" starts at 9 a.m. and the 5K starts at 10 a.m. Check in starts at 8 a.m. for these events.

The Board of Zoning and Appeals will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, Nov. 21, at 8 p.m. at the Village Hall, 155 Washington Avenue, upon the application of Teresa Cunney, 120 Roselle Street to maintain a handicap ramp into the cellar.

The public is invited to attend and all those wishing to be heard will be given an opportunity to do so.

Recently, Congress established a scholarship program for students pursuing computer information security degrees. These scholarships are conditioned on the recipient working for a federal agency after graduation.

Dr. John Aloia, an internationally recognized expert on osteoporosis, is conducting new clinical trials of a self-injectable osteoporosis medication.

Post-menopausal women, previously diagnosed with osteoporosis, who have suffered a fracture are urged to participate.

Jane Moore, RN, MSN, CCRC, nurse specialist, is coordinating these trials and medically appropriate women are invited to call Ms. Moore at 663-2772 for more information.
