Tom and Maryann O'Brien of Foch Blvd. celebrated the first birthday of their grandson, John Thomas. Maryann is that friendly blonde lady who has delivered mail for some years to different parts of the village. Her routes used to be the west end but now she serves the office buildings downtown.

Vinnie Lupinacci of McKinley Parkway is a retired NYC detective. He is a man who is used to danger having worked the west side of Manhattan during his 32 years with the force. Vinnie is active in the new Mineola Civic Association.

Sheila Johnson of Mineola still has a trace of an Irish brogue even though she has lived here a long time. Actually, Sheila was born in Liverpool, England. When I was in Liverpool I was surprised at the number of Irish that live there. Many Irish go "over the water" as they put it to work on the docks and shipyards of Liverpool. The English port being fairly close to the eastern coast of Ireland. Sheila came to the US after World War II when she married a GI, her late husband Tom Johnson.

Lutheran Pastor Robert Mursch is always such a warm and friendly man when you meet him around town.

Ed and Gerry Solosky of Mineola are big NY Islander fans. The couple have long led anti-drug campaigns in the village.

Jay and Roseanna of Horton Highway, owners of Metro Hair Designers in Garden City, had a great round of golf at Wallkill, NY. Both shooting in the 70s.

Walter Sysak, Jr. is doing great work in TV production. Walter is the son of the late Walter and Hilda Sysak of Wellington Road. His dad was president of the Mineola Board of Education and some may remember his "Save the Books" drives where he would send thousands of books to the poor areas in this country and abroad.

Mary Feight of Clinton Avenue is Corpus Christi's lone woman usher. She serves the children's Mass.

Presbyterian Minister Chet Easton enjoys his brisk walks around the village.

Walter and Ruth Glenn live on Krug Place. Walter is a retired school administrator who also served six years on Mineola's board of education and was at one time president.

Ruth Delventhal celebrated her birthday Oct. 10. She and her husband Bill live on Pomander Rd. Their son Billy is a general manager of Anton Newspapers.

Attorney Tim Sullivan formerly of White Rd. enjoyed lunch at the Jericho Diner. Tim and his wife Peggy now reside in Garden City.

Met Mike Lane of Albertson at the Shamrock Station on Herricks Rd. Mike covers Nassau and Queens for the Irish Echo. He reports on sports and other local events. Mike is active in the Irish-American Society.

John Fox of Fox's likes to dine at the Davenport.

Because of the violence in the Middle East, Corpus Christi had to cancel their planned visit to the Holy Land. A large group had signed on and would have been led by Father Tomaz Gomide.

We wish retired attorney Dick Marks a speedy recovery. He and his wife Annette live on Sheridan Blvd.

Many restaurants find lunch business very slow, but one place that is constantly on the go is Churrasqueira Bairrado on Jericho Tpke. Lunch is busy and at night the place is jampacked. The combination of good inexpensive food and the congeniality of the staff makes the place a winner.

Many residents of the East End feel that they have gotten short shrift on tree planting. Holes can be seen but no new trees especially on McKinley Parkway.
