Personal Service Contract Referendum Awaits Nov. 7 Vote
In addition to the important decisions voters are facing concerning the election of officials that will lead New York State in the near future, on Nov. 7, residents of Nassau County will be voting on a referendum having to do with personal service contracts awarded in Nassau County. It will appear as Proposition #2 at the top of the ballot.
Fire Claims Willis Ave. Building
On Tuesday, Oct. 17, in the early morning hours at approximately 4 a.m., the Mineola Fire Department responded to a raging fire at 55 Willis Avenue on the corner of Third Street. The building was vacant and is the former location of MGM Court Reporting. Although the fire department put out the fire in a reasonable amount of time, the building suffered major structural damage. It has been deemed unsafe by the Village of Mineola.
Mineola Heat Post 3-1 Mark
The Mineola Red Heat boys U-15 travel soccer team played their 4th game against West Islip Blue Wave on October 15th. After 32 scoreless minutes in the first half, Fabio De Oliveira scored the first Mineola goal. At 38:21 Anderson Osario scored the next goal for Mineola giving them a 2-0 lead at half-time.
Mineola Magic Tie First Away Game
Mineola Magic, the girls U-12 travel soccer team, played the fourth game of their fall schedule on October 14th against the Island Trees Chargers. The game was very close. The first goal was scored against Mineola at 6:45 in the first half of the game. After some half-time advice from Coach John Munson and Assistant Coach Bill Kain, the girls took the field and Mineola's Kerri O'Connell scored within the first 52 seconds. Mineola continued to dominate the entire second half of the game, but despite a great effort, there were no additional goals scored and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
