  • NEWS: Making Residents Part of Process

    In an effort to keep residents of Nassau County more informed on county issues, presiding officer of the county legislature, Judy Jacobs, announced a new format for printing legal notices in official county newspapers. The new format, according to Jacobs, will not only simplify the process in notifying residents about certain issues, it will also save the county money. FULL STORY

  • NEWS: Concern Lingers Over Willis Ave. School

    In response to some community members' dissatisfaction with the initial design of the outdoor façade of the Willis Avenue early childhood learning center, The Spector Group, the architecture team the Mineola School District hired to design the new building and grounds, presented two alternate designs of the building's façade. However, even the alternate designs were met with by opposition by some residents who feel the building doesn't look like a school that promotes warmth to kindergarten and pre-kindergarten students.   • SPORTS: A Message For My Teammates

    Since the beginning of the football season, 20 warriors have courageously battled under pressure and against all odds, only to end up on the short end of the stick. Those 20 warriors are the Mineola Mustangs varsity football team. Outweighed and overpowered, these guys have shed blood, sweat and tears, digging deep inside themselves to match strength with opponents twice their size. Some tough breaks and mistakes due to inexperience led to back to back shutouts at home for the boys in red, white and black. These selfless men have walked off the field physically and emotionally drained, leaving every ounce of effort and energy on the field. On top of all of this, these figurative kamikazes have had to deal with the feeling of disappointing their peers and community as a whole. FULL STORY

  • SPORTS: Wizards Win North Hempstead Cup Tournament

    Mineola U-11 girls took first place in their division, going undefeated in the two-day tournament. On Saturday, Oct. 7, the Mineola Wizards defeated the Hewlett Blue Stars 5-1. The second game was against the Alburndale Raiders, which Mineola won 4-0. Their third game was against the Wantagh-Seaford Slingshots and Mineola again came out on top, winning 4-1. The Wizards had a three-game winning streak, heading into Sunday. FULL STORY
