Jean Majkowski has been a resident of Mineola for 65 years. She paid a visit to her birthplace, Johnstown, PA, which was the scene of the terrible flood in the early years of the last century. Johnstown is a great city today and the home of Penn State University.

While in Greenport, saw nine majestic looking swans pass by our room on the Sound. The birds emerged from the water and spent awhile on the beach drawing a crowd of onlookers.

While in the same village, we met Ron Ziel, the author of a number of books on the Spanish-American War. Ron says the 1898 War was one of the most important in our history since we took from Spain, Puerto Rico, Cuba, the Philippines, Guam and the Pacific Islands, establishing us as a world power.
