It's been over 60 years since Gwen Sanders, a resident of Corinth, NY, which is located about 50 miles north of Albany, saw her brother. The two siblings, she said, were separated when Sanders was 5 and her brother was 4.

Sanders recalls living as a child upstate with her mother and grandmother. She said she has pictures of herself with her brother but never really knew him.

It was during the time of the depression and her mother, she said, wasn't able to support a daughter and a son. Her brother who went by the name of Gary Bickford lived at the home of a nearby family friend. That is until, she said, he was taken by the Children's Aid Society 61 years ago.

Sanders later learned her brother was adopted three years later and that's when she believes he went to Mineola.

Sanders is now 66 years old and is desperately trying to find her brother while she still can. It is a quest that began 16 years ago when her mother died. "My mother never really got over it," she said.

Recently, Sanders believes she has gotten closer in her journey. Within the last six months, Sanders said she was provided information from a contact she made during her research. Her brother, she learned from the source, went by the name of Robert Lundstrom and graduated from Mineola High School in 1953.

Sanders then obtained a copy of the yearbook to view the young man's picture. She said the member of the Mineola graduating class of 1953 could very well be her brother. "There was definitely a family resemblance," she said.

Sanders also said the only Lundstrom who graduated around that time was the 1953 Mineola graduate. She said she checked Social Securty death records and couldn't find the name so she believes he is still alive.

As she searches for her brother, Sanders said she would like him to know that things may have not been the way he thought. "He may have been told he has no family," she said, adding that she wants him to know he was wanted by his mother and sister.

Sanders said she would like anyone with any information to call her at (518) 654-6884.
