Once again the district of Mineola will put a bond proposal before the residents. On June 20, we will have the opportunity to provide our school officials with the funding they need to bring this district up to speed. These funds will be used to increase technology and space in all of the buildings, to remove asbestos and to replace boilers and roofs. These items are too costly to add to the budgets all at once or even over a few years. A bond gives us what we need quickly and for the least amount per year to the taxpayer. This major overhaul that our properties are in desperate need of is the natural outcome of many years of use and not putting a ton of money back into the buildings because of other rising costs. Mineola is a debt-free district that has made every effort to only have the yearly budgets go up in small increments. It's time to renovate just like all the other districts on the Island. Our bond is actually very small compared with most. Please read about it, ask questions and make a decision that will benefit our children and our property values. This really is a lean and mean plan that will serve all of us very well. Let's give the district the care and upkeep it needs and deserves before the deterioration reflects in both education and real estate.
