Seymour G. Numeroff, DDS, 75, died on May 9, 2000, after a long and valiant struggle against kidney disease. He served as a captain in the US Army, practiced dentistry in Mineola with a large and devoted following for 53 years and was a six-time champion golfer. His kindness, intelligence and care touched all who knew and loved him; he leaves this world a better place, though his passing leaves a void that can never be filled. Husband of Harriet. Father of Gil and Robin, Nancy and Neil, Jane and Kenneth. Grandfather of Lauren, Jaime, Matthew, Alexandra and Jonathan. Donations can be made in his name to the National Kidney Foundation.
James Donald Shea, 72, of Bethpage and Shelter Island, formerly of Albertson, died on May 11, 2000. He was born in Brooklyn on Oct. 25, 1927, the son of James Francis Shea and Frances Fitzgerald Shea. He graduated from Bishop Loughlin High School and St. John's University. He was a veteran of the US Army Air Corps.
Mr. Shea was an insurance premium finance salesman in San Francisco. After moving to NY, he became a marine underwriter at William H. McGee & Co. He was later an insurance broker account manager at Johnson & Higgins Inc. and a risk manager with Mitsubishi International Corp. He retired in 1992.
A recognized expert in marine cargo insurance, Mr. Shea was an instructor at the College of Insurance, the World Trade Institute and Pohl's Institute. He was the author of a textbook on marine cargo insurance. He was a member of the Risk Management Society of NY and the Society of Importers and Exporters.
Mr. Shea was the husband of Ruth Theobald Shea. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret M. Shea. Father of Deirdre Fonseca, James, Brian, Christopher and Gavin. Father-in-law of Martin, Maria, Patricia, Suzanne and Mary. Grandfather of 12. Brother of Clair Marie Dolan, Marian Jelinek, Kevin and Gerard. He was predeceased by his brother Geoffrey.
Arrangements were made by the Charles J. O'Shea Funeral Home, East Meadow. Funeral Mass at St. James RC Church. Interment Our Lady of the Isle Cemetery, Shelter Island.
