On April 30, the Third Grade Lacrosse team met Bellmore/Merrick at Hampton Stadium and came away with their second win with a score of 6-2. Captains Peter Abbatiello, Chris Olsen and Louis Flaherty led their team to another fine day of lacrosse.
Mineola took command right away with a goal by Patrick Kennedy just 1:18 minutes into the first quarter. It was one of three goals he had for the day. Goals were also scored by Rocco Redmond, Bruce Defino and Charlie Journigan.
Strong games were played by defensemen Bryan Vesely, Louis Flaherty and Max Baltzer. They did not have to play much defense since the offense kept the ball most of the game but, when tested, they held strong with some ferocious hits.
On May 6, the Mineola Third Grade team met West Islip. It was a record setting day for heat, which West Islip seemed to thrive on. Captains Joey Froehling, Patrick Kennedy and Bruce Defino had a difficult time keeping their team inspired against the heat.
Mineola worked on the defensive end of the field most of the day. Hard work in the heat was done by Peter Abbatiello, Robert Santandreu and Rocco Redmond. Exceptional games were had by Max Baltzer, Bruce Defino and Bryan Vesely, who, as a defenseman, scored Mineola's only goal. At times, these three seemed like the only players on the field for Mineola. James DePalma had a good game in goal stopping 10 out of 14 shots. Mineola lost 4-1.
