The following is a list of events scheduled for the Village Community Center for the month of May:

The Mineola Summer Recreation Program will be entering its 13 year and we are looking forward to having another great year. Camp will take place beginning Wednesday, July 5 and end on Friday, Aug. 11. The cost of the program is $55 for the first child, $25 for the second child and $20 for each child thereafter. Children are eligible to participate in the program if they are entering 2 through 8 grade in September. I am pleased to announce that applications are now available for pickup at Village Hall. There is also a medical form that needs to be filled out and signed by a physician. The completed application and medical form, accompanied by a check made payable to the Village of Mineola, must be returned to Village Hall no later than Friday, June 9.
The Board of Trustees Will Hold Public Hearings on Wednesday, May 17 at 6:30pm at the Village Hall, 155 Washington Avenue.
Public comment is encouraged. The following are the matters currently scheduled to be heard:
1. A proposed local law amending Chapter 30, Section 30.5 of the Municipal Code of the Incorporated Village of Mineola which provide that businesses shall not be permitted to conduct business operations out of doors unless specifically authorized by the Code.
2. A proposed local law amending the Municipal Code of the Incorporated Village of Mineola to provide a new section entitled "Historic Preservation" which will authorize the Board of Trustees to designate certain properties, sites and districts as historic places which will be subjected to regulation and preservation.
3. Application of Jose Carvallo to install a 3 meter electrical panel at 51 Jackson Avenue contrary to Chapter 30, Article VII, Section 30.80 of the Municipal Code of the Incorporated Village of Mineola.
4. Application of Jose Almeida to maintain a third electric meter at 14 Westbury Avenue, contrary to Chapter 30, Article VII, Section 30.80 of the Municipal Code of the Incorporated Village of Mineola.
5. Application of Alterino Persico to install a third electric meter at 94 Dow Avenue contrary to Chapter 30, Article VII, Section 30.80 of the Municipal Code of the Incorporated Village of Mineola.
6. Application of Manuel Carvalho to maintain a storage container as outside storage at 142-150 Jericho Turnpike contrary to Chapter 30, Article VII, Section 30.72 of the Municipal Code of the Incorporated Village of Mineola.
7. Application of Manuel Carvalho to modify special use permit to maintain an 8 foot high wooden fence to enclose a dumpster and storage container, and to store perishable waste outside of the premises at 142-150 Jericho Turnpike contrary to Chapter 30, Article VII, Section 30.31 (B) of the Municipal Code of the Incorporated Village of Mineola.
8. Application of Lino Bordi and 520 Cherry Lane Realty Corporation to convert a warehouse to garage storage and office facility at 15 Windsor Court, contrary to Chapter 30, Article VII, Section 30.72 (B) of the Municipal Code of the Incorporated Village of Mineola.

In the last few weeks a Speed Monitoring Device has been placed on Roslyn Road (going North bound). Speeding presents a danger to pedestrians as well as the speeding driver.
The police will be increasing their enforcement efforts regarding vehicle and traffic infractions throughout our village in the weeks and months to come.
If you are tempted to speed, you should reflect on how much your auto insurance will increase for years to come.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No.1305 will host the Annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 29. Those participating in this parade will begin to assemble at Wilson Park at 10:30 a.m. and will step-off at 11 a.m.
The parade route is as follows:
West on Westbury Avenue; North on Roslyn Road; West on Jericho Turnpike; South on Marcellus Road to the Ceremonial Stand in Mineola Memorial Park.
The Village Offices will be closed on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29, however there will be regular garbage collection on this day.
Asthma sufferers are welcome to attend a four week program sponsored by Winthrop-University Hospital regarding asthma management.
The program will be on Wednesday evenings, May 24 and 31, June 7 and 14, from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
During the four week program, each participant will receive an asthma workbook, a free peak flow meter and individualized instructions on how to use inhaled medication.

The week of May 14 20 has been designated as Emergency Medical Services Week. In our Village, the Mineola Volunteer Ambulance Corps (MVAC) serves the emergency medical needs of our community.
The Board of Trustees and I thank all the members of MVAC for their dedication to excellence and commitment to daily serve the emergency needs of our residents.
