Speaking of Corpus Christi their excellent choir director is Troy Gordon who hails from North Carolina. He is not only the organist at the Masses, but the director of the adult, children and bell choirs. He is a graduate of the North Carolina School of Arts, the Manhattan School of Music and the American Opera Center at Juilliard.

Enjoyed a pint of Guinness and some corned beef and cabbage courtesy of Mary and Martin O'Donnell on St. Patrick's Day. O'Donnell's is the oldest Irish bar in Nassau County. While at the pub I met Doris Kern who lives upstairs. Doris has lived there many years and even remembers Mary O'Doherty, the first owner.

That beautiful and statuesque waitress at the Jericho Diner is Sue Miron. She and husband Donald, who is a landscaper and Williston Park fireman, recently returned from a 10-day trip to the Hawaiian Islands. They stayed at the Hilton and got to visit the Hawaiian Village and the big island of Hawaii where they saw the volcano erupt. They later went to the small island of Kilauea and took a helicopter ride which gave them an overall view of the chain. Sue says it was a great but a long trip as they flew from NY to Chicago which is two hours and then from there to Hawaii which is ten more.

The women are taking over. Congrats to Linda Fairgrieve on her election to the village board. She, along with Elizabeth Conlon and Maryanne Warnecke, give the ladies three of the five seats. We now have a board with three Village Party reps, Mayor John Colbert, Lou Santosus and Maryanne and two of the opposition Hometown Party Linda and Elizabeth. A divided board like this should assure the people of good government. In the old days Mineola's Village Board was strictly a male dominated body. When Ann Galante was elected to the board she was only the second woman to serve. Bertha Breen was elected in 1932.

Looking at a brochure of the Ottawa Senators of 1934 the top ticket price was $3 and the cheaper seats 50 cents. The best seat at Islander games now is $70.
