I've been meaning to write for some time over what I consider to be a disservice to the citizens of Mineola ¬ the reporting of the Police Report.
For your Feb. 9 issue, you reported 11 cars stolen with only two of them being taken from Mineola. For robberies, etc., you reported 13 incidents occurring with only one taking place in Mineola. The others happened in Albertson, Carle Place, Westbury, Garden City, Williston Park, Roosevelt Field, Nassau County Medical Center, New Cassel and Hempstead.
At first glance, one might think of Mineola as a hotbed of crime, but when one reads through the report, it becomes apparent that our village is virtually crime-free when compared to other communities. While you might argue that you're only reporting on the areas surrounding Mineola, that doesn't wash when you lump in Uniondale (NC Medical Center), New Cassel or Hempstead.
If I had to guess I'd say the Police Report is just a synopsis of 3rd Precinct activity and then printed the same in all Anton papers where the 3rd Precinct has a presence.
I think a little more editing is in order to accurately portray Mineola for the fine and safe community that it is.
