In their first game of the season, the boys varsity basketball team defeated Carey by a score of 75-62. James McQueen led the way with 25 points and 8 rebounds. Stan Smith scored 20 points and added 8 rebounds himself, while Matt Damon added 18 points and also 8 rebounds. The boys will play their next game against Garden City.

The Lady Mustangs continued their impressive start to their season with a victory over Roslyn at Sheridan Lanes. Both varsity and JV notched 11-0 wins over Roslyn.

Sophomore Christina Schulze's 616 led the varsity team, as well as her game-high 235. Joanna Errico's 436 series (156 high) helped ensure the victory. Sophomore Lauren Landy made her first appearance on the team for the third game, a 25-pin win over Roslyn.

Landy also helped spark the JV squad with games of 154 and 149. Senior Lauren Scala completed her first full JV match and Junior Melissa Purdy bowled her first game for the team.

Next up for the Mustangs is a match against defending conference champions Great Neck South on Dec. 9, followed by matches against Carle Place on Dec. 14 and Port Washington on Dec. 16. All matches at Sheridan Lanes begin anywhere from 3:45 to 4:15 p.m.

The varsity bowlers shut out Great Neck North by a score of 11-0 on their first match of the season. John Randazzo bowled 218, 220, 230 for a 673 series, while Eric Kruse bolwed 209, 203. Anthony Scapiccio rolled a 183 and Adam Tuthill turned in a 17 and 236.

The JV also won their match by a score of 11-0. Matt Brown Rolled a 183, Billy D'Elia 181, Cris Festa 162, and Jeff Tavaras rolled a 201, 195, 202 series.

On Dec. 2, the boys met Roslyn, capturing shut-out wins again on varsity and JV. Tuthill bowled a 191, 192, Bryan Gallucci a 186, 191, and John Randazzo rolled a 262 and a 205. On JV, Matt Brown had a 181, Jeff Tavaras a 216 and 201.

Boys bowling Coach Bob Young is pleased to announce that after finishing second in the county last year, this year's varsity squad will return three seasoned bowlers, all-county Randazzo, Kruse and Anthony Scapicchio. New bowlers to the varsity team are Gallucci, D'Elia, Tuthill and Brown. Coach Young hopes to put together another competitive season this year.

The JV bowlers will consist of many newcomers, including Riccardo Cunha, Festa, Brian Sacs, Tavaras and John Tiseo. With hard work and seasoned varsity bowlers to practice with, Coach Young also hopes for a great season by the JV squad. Good luck boys.
