The Mineola High School girls volleyball team had a great run through the Nassau County Class B playoffs, but in the end lost the title to Hewlett in the finals.

Fourth-seeded Mineola handled New Hyde Park and Manhasset, both in three straight games, before facing top seeded Wantagh in the semifinal.

The Mustangs beat Wantagh by scores of 15-5, 15-13, and 15-11, redeeming themselves after losing twice to Wantagh in the regular season. Playing well for the Mustangs were Lauren Scala with 11 kills, Vanessa Papadimitrios with 15 digs, and Ashley O'Neill with 29 assists.

In the final against Hewlett, Mineola lost in four games. The Lady Mustangs gave it their all, but Hewlett was the better team. The outstanding season is a credit to Coach Lynn Klein and all the girls.

The players are: Leslee Brown, Lauren Scala, Kristen Buglione, Vanessa Papadimitrios, Mary Alice Forness, Nicole Yackubowski, Ashley O'Neill, Lauren Callahan, Lauren Niewender, Laura Saulnier, Christine McPartlan and Kim Rossi.
