Each year since I instituted the Halloween Party for the children of our village, it has gotten bigger and better.

The creativity of the volunteers who spend countless hours making the decorations, graveyard, hayride and other activities is greatly appreciated.

I have often mentioned in my column about the spirit of volunteerism that exists in our village and again, the success of this event is the result of the efforts of many, many volunteers.

The freedoms we enjoy today are the result of efforts of those who served our country. Please try to attend both of these events.

The "Garage Sale" held by the Historical Society was very successful.

The proceeds that were realized will enable the society to fund the purchase of Historical Markers.

I want to thank all those who attended the garage sale and thank all the volunteers who staffed the event.

There are a number of people whose contributions to this event are worthy of special note.

Without these special contributions, i.e., time and talent, this event would not have been the memorable event it was.

I wish to thank Gary Mazur, Kyle Teemsma, Ken Madaras, Tom O'Brien, Jerry O'Brien, Junior Firefighters, and Chief Michael Spae and the members of the Mineola Auxiliary Police.

A special Bully to the leaders and boys of Boys Scout Troop 45 for our Pancake Breakfast.

I am pleased to announce that the Mineola Memorial Library has recently received two grants.

The United States Telecommunications Grant Corporation which was established to assist libraries to purchase computer equipment to facilitate. Internet access has approved our grant application to rebate 40 percent of the library phone bill.

The second grant that was awarded to our library is from the Nassau Library System. We received the maximum grant available under this program.
