The Girls soccer programs at Mineola High School have picked up some key wins this season.
The varsity Mustangs beat a tough Farmingdale team 2-1 Oct. 13, thanks in part to an all-star performance by Diane Macedo, who started her first game in goal for the team.
Macedo came up with an incredible 13 saves for the Mustangs, and the Mineola defense was held together by Sam Didrikson and Joanna Errico.
Jess Coulon opened up the scoring with a great cross which found its way into the net, scoring Mineola's second and winning goal.
Also contributing fine performances were Laura McDonnell and Deena Vezo.
The varsity team played its next game on Friday, Oct. 15. Results were not available by press time.
The girls' JV squad completed a sweep of the Farmingdale girls team with a win of their own. The Mustangs rolled over Farmingdale by a score of 4-1, with impressive performances by a stingy Mineola defense, including Jackie Silva, Janine Posilico, Patty Munson, and goalkeepers Melissa Hock and Denise Fitzpatrick.
The Mustangs also welcomed back the play of "Ever Loud" Laura Lupo, who had been injured most of the season. Goals were scored by Filomena Palumbo, Suzie Hahn and Theresa Dolan. Angelina Martinez and Maureen Cloghessy contributed to the win each with an assist.
