The front page of the Mineola American a few weeks ago pictured Deputy Mayor Warren Brinker and Trustee Louis Santosus reviewing plans for the next fast food restaurant in our village. Their comments seemed enthusiastic enough to make it appear that this is the best thing for our village since the last fast food restaurant was built.
The removal of the previous eyesore is beneficial to our village, but it was only a short time ago that residents and businesses had expressed their concerns at Village Hall that fast food operations with drive-through windows are a "convenience" for the restaurant, but an inconvenience and dangerous for our village.
Our mayor heard these complaints and imposed a "restaurant moratorium" so that the village codes could be changed to better protect the quality of the village. Apparently the codes were not changed to prevent fast food restaurants from claiming the next available spot.
I sincerely hope they will address this issue before the next fast food application.
