In anticipation of the arrival of Floyd last week, I had several meetings with our Clerk's Office, Department of Public Works, Fire Department, Auxiliary Police and Ambulance Corps.

Preparations were made to house residents in the Community Center, all the back-up generators at our wells and elsewhere were checked, storm drains were cleared of debris, suspected trees were addressed and the sumps were inspected.

Floyd arrived early Thursday morning and the rain stopped by 9 p.m. but the winds continued into Friday. Throughout the entire storm, the village phone lines were open - ready to receive calls from our residents.

The fire fepartment and Ambulance Corps had members standing by at their respective headquarters during the height of the storm and the Auxiliary Police patrolled the village.

The rain, which I am told exceeded six inches, along with the wind, caused many tree limbs to fall and comparatively few trees to also fall.

The Department of Public Works continued working till midnight cleaning up.

Friday morning brought more calls from our residents regarding limbs down and more trees down.

I rode the village Thursday evening for over three hours and wish to thank the fire department, Auxiliary Police, Ambulance Corps and the Department of Public Works for all their efforts during the storm.

I suggest to our residents that in any future storm, that they try to park their cars someplace other than under a tree. Several of the limbs that fell regretfully fell on cars.

All in all, our village faired reasonably well.
