On Wednesday, Sept. 29, at Eleanor Rigby's, 133 Mineola Boulevard, there will be a fund raiser for the benefit of the Mineola Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
I am pleased to announce that for the first time the Village will host a Family Skate Night at the Wilson Park Roller Rink on Friday, Sept. 24. The event will take place from 8 p.m. until 10 p.m. DJ Mike Eich will be spinning the tunes to get everyone in the skating mood. All Village residents are invited. Please remember that you must possess a 1999 Village of Mineola Leisure Pass to take part in this event. In addition, anyone under the age of 14 must wear a protective helmet. I look forward to seeing everyone there.
I am also pleased to announce that on Saturday, Oct. 9, the Village will be showing the entire Star Wars Trilogy at the Village Community Center. The afternoon and evening will be filled with all the excitement and energy that these three classic film are known for. The first installment, Star Wars, A New Hope will begin at 2 p.m. Empire Strikes Back will follow at 4:30 p.m. and at 8 p.m., the final installment, Return of the Jedi will be shown. Admission is free and popcorn will be provided for all those who attend. Once again, please remember that you must possess a 1999 Village of Mineola Leisure Pass to take part in this event. All the movies are rated PG. I hope everyone will be able to take part in this unique event.
In order to assist those who would still like to obtain a 1999 Leisure Pass, the Recreation Department is announcing that they will have three more opportunities for registration. Registration will take place on the following Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.: Sept. 18, Sept. 25 and Oct. 2. If you are purchasing a pass for the first time you need to bring the following items: Personal Identification (Driver's License for adults, Birth Certificate or School ID for kids), 2 Utility Bills and if you rent a Lease, Rental Agreement or Rent Receipt. The cost is $5 per pass.
