In 1949, William J. D'Avanzo joined Company One of the Mineola Fire Department. This year, the department has planned a celebration in honor of his fiftieth year in that company. FULL STORY

The Mineola Chamber of Commerce met on Aug. 30 to decide on this year's Business Person of the Year. The award is commissioned by the Nassau County Council of Chambers and is given by each town and village chamber in the county. To be eligible, candidates must be a member of the chamber must not have received the honor before. "We try to keep it in the community, " Teri Ranfone, chamber president said.
