In a high scoring game on July 22, the Poliwraths edged the Poliwhirls 13 to 10. This is only the third game of the MAA Minors Summer Camp season.
Pitching for the first time, Anthony Fabrico, Peter Granath, Matthew Havron and Chris Granath all put on a great performance. The veterans, pitcher Michael Brady and Tommy Flynn racked up 5 strikeouts between them in their Summer League debuts.
The offense was led by Mark Dadich, who slapped A tape measure inside-the-park homer. His brother Matt Dadich also contributed by rapping out a pair of singles.
Starring in the field, as well as at the bat was Kevin Brostek, who smashed a triple, and made a stellar defensive play at second base to prevent a big inning.
In a real nail-bitter, the Wigglytuffs wriggled past the Jigglypuffs, 15 to 14, in the fourth game of the MAA Minors Summer Camp Season.
The Wigglies came out quick, scoring 15 times in the top of the first, highlighted by a bases loaded triple by Peter Clark.
Then it was the Jigglies turn to strike. In their half of the inning, they pushed six runners across the plate on timely hitting by Michael Brady and T.J. Gessner and heads-up base running by Zane and Troy Kerney. Jiggly pitchers Michael Brady and Kurt Hetzer shut the Wigglesters down for the next few innings, while the Jigglesters added nine more, stopped only by fine pitching by Chris Brostek and Jimmy Murtha.
The Wigglers threatened one more time, but Zane Kerney, with Wigglers on all bases, struck out the last batter to finish the game.
Making their pitching debuts were Dennis Clark, John Englis, Matthew Grieco, Frankie Lao, Thomas McKeever and Paul Tapias. All pitched well. Paul Tapias notched a pair of strikeouts and Matthew Grieco struck out the first batter he faced - quite an auspicious start for this young fire-baller.
