The Championship game of the playoffs was a usual Fleet Bank game as they received good pitching, timely hitting, great base running and super defense. Dan Vezo, Mike DeStefano and Derek Webber held Katz 5 hits while giving up 2 runs. The defense made some outstanding plays led by Webber at Shortstop, DeStefano on the Mound, James Kelly at 1st Base, Tom Boshans in Right Field, Anthony Allegra in Center Field, and Drew Martone in Left Field. Fleet's offence knocked out 7 hits and were led with 2 hits by Webber and 1 hit each by Frank D'Angelo, Tom Oswald, Mick Oswald, Bob Pagano and Boshans. Fleet jumped out to an early lead in the 1st inning as T. Osweld singled home both runs. They added 1 more run in the 3rd to make the score 3-0 as Pagano blasted a shot off of the Left Center Field fence for a double, was moved to third on a single by Boshans and was brought home on a single by D'Angelo. Katz came back to score 2 runs in the 4th inning, but, Fleet added an insurance run in the bottom of the 4th inning as Webber singled, stole 2nd and 3rd and as Mike Lombardi walked, he hustled down to 1st Base and kept right on going to 2nd Base. The throw to 2nd Base was late and Webber stole Home for the 4th run and a 4-2 lead which ended up being the final score.

This has been an outstanding year for the players of Fleet Bank as they have had a lot of fun, learned about the game of Baseball and learned to respect the game as well as each other. The Coaches and Parents are very proud of our children and what they have accomplished and this is a great way to start off the summer.
As the Manager of Fleet Bank and the Commissioner of the Minor League Division, I would like to give out special thank you's to all of the parents who helped out this year whether it was coaching, managing, umpiring or helping out at the Refreshment Stand. You all played an important part in making for a successful season for our children. I must personally give a special thank you to John Strein who has been the driving force in keeping Little League Baseball alive in Mineola.
