Our village is very fortunate to have so many who volunteer their time and talents to make this the great community that it is.

One of those who volunteer, Paul Walters, is a member of the Mineola Ambulance Corps., while responding to a call, was in an accident. He was recently released from the hospital.

We wish him a speedy recovery.

The Saddle Rock Grist Mill located in the Village of Saddle Rock is open Sundays, May through October, from 1 to 5 p.m.

This is one of the few remaining tidal grist mills in America.

It has been restored to its 1845 appearance and commemorates a principal industry of rural Long Island in the 1700s and 1800s.

For further information and group reservations, please call 571-7900.

In 1920, our village had 3,016 residents. In 10 years the population had grown to 8,155.

Today, our population is slightly less than 19,000.

We recently experienced temperatures in the 90s.

Some tips to "Stay Cool" are:

1. Drink lots of liquids; avoid caffeinated beverages which act as dehydrators.

2. Wear light-colored clothing.

3. Close blinds during the day.

4. Reduce activity and spend time in air conditioned areas.
