The three honorees on Senior Citizen Recognition Day were Theresa Irace (AARP Chapter 4202); Virginia Hendricks (Mineola Golden Age Club, Inc.) and William Messina (The Leisure Club of Mineola, Inc.).

Congratulations to each of these honorees for their contributions to their respective organizations and for being the great people that they truly are.

The members of Boy Scout Troop 45 wish to thank the residents for their generous contributions of clothing and blankets to help those who were victims of the tornados in Oklahoma.

Legislator Richard Nicolello brought to my attention that the Nassau County Board of Health has a "Bulletin" regarding Lyme Disease which is available for free.

This "Bulletin" highlights, among other things, preventive steps that should be taken to reduce your chances of contracting this disease. They are:

1) Wear light colored, long sleeve shirts and pants tucked into socks or boots.

2) Stay in the center of paths and trails.

3) Check yourself for ticks every two to three hours while outside.

4) Apply tick repellent such as Deetor Autan to the skin, but not on the hands or near the eyes.

5) The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that if a tick repellent is used on young children, that it be applied only sparingly because of reported complications.
