The Mineola Angels U-16 girls travel soccer team advanced to the second round of Waldbaum's Challenge with a victory over east Meadow. With less than four minutes remaining in the game. Midfielder Maureen Cloghessy fired in a hard well placed shot around the diving body of East Meadow's goalie. The team played a very strong game against East Meadow who was the favorite in this round.
The Mineola Angels U-16 girls travel soccer team met the Smithtown Barracudas in t he 2nd round of the Waldbaum's Challenge. Mineola got great play from striker Jenifer Citro who had two goals and many great passes. The team's training is starting to pay off as players Melissa Rita, Laura Lamm, Amy Sherar all played an outstanding game. Rookie striker Melissa Nudo wasted no time in scoring her first goal on some good ball handling. Sweeper Joanna Errico recorded her first goal of the new season on a hard well-placed shot. The final goal came from striker Theresa Dolan. Goalie Ally Murphy picked up her second shut out, and defender Angelina Martinez frustrated the Barracudas all afternoon with smothering defense.
The Mineola Angles under 16 girls soccer team hosted Plainview/Old Bethpage on Sunday, April 18. Goalkeeper Allyson Murphy put on a show in t he net and the defense of Patricia Munson, Maryl Fitzpatrick, Sweeper Joanna Errico and stopper combo Ashley McGuinness and Denise Fitzpatrick holding off any attack. The Angels opened up the show on a goal by Theresa Dolan. Then new midfielder Lauren Anderson set up a great give and go to striker Michele Rita who fired a perfect crossing pass to charging midfielder Maureen Cloghessy. For the second score then P/OB made the mistake of roughing up striker Theresa Dolan and she made them pay for it, when she burst past two defenders and out raced the charging goalie who collided with Dolan. But not before Dolan lifted a "Highlight Reel Goal" up over her prone body for the final score the whole team has picked their game up and they are having fun.
The Mineola Angel under 16 girls travel soccer team opened the spring '99 season in full force. The Angels scored within the opening five minutes when striker Theresa Dolan blasted one in from outside the 18 yard box. Center midfield had three goals, while striker Michele Rita had the teams first header goal off a corner kick. Then she scored her second on some great moves that left the Farmingdale Defenders looking at teach other. The final score came from Striker Jennifer Citro off a well placed crossing pass. The Angels had a great game from all players.
