It was not surprising that 62 percent of our school district voted "No" on the proposed $38 million bond issue. Most residents of Mineola and Williston have limited financial reserves and the expenditure was simply too much. This on top of the recent large expenditures for the new Mineola pool and the future expenditure for renovation of the library. We realize that a problem exists with the overcrowded conditions. We feel that a more modest proposal would pass.

How about a clean-up campaign for the village? Too many of our stores have garbage and trash scattered around the sidewalks. We have too many overflowing dumpsters and ripped garbage bags. We can do better.

Congratulations to Tom DiNapoli on being named the chairman of the Nassau Democratic Party. The Mineola High School Class of 1972, of which he was a member, produced some successful young people. Gerard Terry is the top "behind the scenes man" of the county Democrats; Judy Randall is an editor at the Staten Island Advance; and our son Tom is a CPA and comptroller and a vice-president of a large conglomerate in New York City, The Reliance Group Holdings Co.
