Believe it or not Dolores and Jack Cooke of Columbus Parkway are great-grandparents. Victoria Gale Stellato was born Feb. 11, 1999 to Kelly and John Stellato. The other great-grandparents are Tom and Gale Winsper.

Pat McDonald and sons of the Shamrock Station on Herricks Rd. are probably the three most ardent hockey fans in Mineola. They attend every home game of the NY Islanders and catch the away games on TV. They should get some kind of medal for endurance considering the season the Isles are having.

Speaking of hockey, around the turn of the century, there was a team called the Vancouver Millionaires. A million dollars was an unbelievable amount in those days. Today of course everybody in every major sport is a millionaire.

Glad to hear that former village trustee Izzy Irace is doing well after having a pacemaker inserted. He and his wife Marge live on Horton Highway.

That sump in Memorial Park is the remnants of what was once the huge Simonson Pond which was located where the library is today.

Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy spoke at an enthusiastic meeting of the chamber of commerce. She was one of the first to arrive at La Cisterna Restaurant and didn't leave until just about everybody had gone. This allowed for plenty of time for anyone wishing to do so to speak to her one on one which was very much appreciated. Both Republicans and Democrats alike enjoyed her talk.

Jim Martin has worked in the bicycle business for 42 years. He started with Walter Tworkowski's Nassau Bicycle Shop, which some may remember was located where See Mac is today, for 22 years. The last 20 years he has been at Mineola Bike. Jim, like most European-born citizens is a big soccer fan. Jim was born in Manchester, England, home of the famous Manchester United team.

Bill Henricks of Mineola, owner of Kuck's Delicatessen and Yogurt, after reopening following a devastating fire, recently slipped on the ice and broke his arm. Bad luck seems to come in bunches. Bill's son and daughter and the rest of the staff are working extra hours and the store is doing a brisk business.
