The Mineola Auxiliary Police Department has a brochure regarding Halloween safety. If you are interested in obtaining one, please call their headquarters at 746-2448.
Some of the "pointers" are:
a) Check to see if the costumes are flame retardant.
b) Keep costumes short to prevent trips and falls.
c) Use make-up instead of a mask. Masks can obstruct a child's vision - a dangerous thing when children are crossing streets and when going up and down steps.
d) Parents should accompany young children when Trick or Treating.
e) All "treats" should be checked at home before being eaten.
f) Never eat candies and other treats that are not in their original wrappers.
