On Saturday, Sept. 12, in an exciting start to the MAA Boys Juniors Soccer fall season, Team 3 squeezed by Team 4, 3-2.
Kevin Brostek started the scoring for Team 3 when he found an opening in a crowd and drove a 10-footer into the back of the net. Brother Chris added another goal with a wicked shot from the left, just beating the outstretched hands of goalie Andrew Shear.
Team 4 had several opportunities to score and kept goalie Michael Vasconcelos busy. Late in the first half, Team 4's Kevin Etherson stole the ball in his opponent's end and netted a goal.
In the second half, Shear switched out of the goal and tied the score with a full-field rush capped by a brilliant shot. The game remained tied for most of the second half until a hand-ball penalty afforded Team 3 a penalty kick. Chris Brostek took it and netted his second goal, giving Team 3 a one-goal lead. Team 4 nearly tied it several times, but rushes by Shear and Etherson were stopped by Team 3's defense.
