I was delighted to learn of plans of revitalize the Mineola Library. Since 1982, I've been its most persistent, consistent volunteer, both as a library trustee and host (15 years) of the Friday adult movies. I look forward to a rejuvenated library.
Today's library does not live on books alone. Required are computers with their multiple adjuncts, compact discs, audio/visual cassettes, space for the performing arts (plays, concerts, lectures, etc.). A library is more than references, it is a media information center for the community.
A state of the art library must have motivated professionals abetted by a dedicated staff.
All of the above requires proper financing. Yearly budgets with proper financing will need all political parties pledged to such support with the community behind them. Without such future support we would be building a million dollar mausoleum.
With all the above in place, I would heartily endorse a bond issue for a community enhancing library.
