Monday, Aug. 24 was our Swim Team Awards Night. Coaches Mike Gildea and Nicole Gregorius had high praises for their team members as they presented them with their trophies. Trustees Warnecke and Conlon were in attendance along with Pool Board members, Nick Pennacchio, Dennis O'Brien and Stagnari. Trustee Warnecke, liaison to the pool, congratulated the team on another wonderful season and welcomed them all to return next summer.
Our last splash party of the season was held on Saturday, Aug. 22. All those whowere present enjoyed the music provided by RPM DJ's. We thank all those members who have participated in the parties during the summer.
Road preparation work has begun. This year, with the assistance of Senator Michael Balboni and Assemblywoman Maureen O'Connell, we will be resurfacing 15 of our village roadways.
Resurfacing is slated to commence in late September or early October.
The veterans enrolled in the VA health care system will be eligible to receive inpatient and outpatient services, including preventative and primary care. These include: diagnostic and treatment services; rehabilitation; home health and drugs in conjunction with VA treatment.
There is no monthly premium for VA care. When you use these services, the requirement for co-payment is based on your VA eligibility rating.
To be eligible for VA Health Care, most veterans must be enrolled. If you have any questions please call 1-877-222-VETS.
Every dog which is in the New York State for more than 30 days, must be licensed.
The licensing procedure is fairly simple. You can mail your request to Linda Green, Town Clerk's Office, Town of North Hempstead, 200 Plandome Road, Manhasset, NY 11030. Or, if you care to call, the number is 869-7646.
I have often made reference to the enforcement efforts of the building department in past columns.
The building department, with the assistance of the plumbing board and electrical board, also issues licenses to plumbers and electricians.
If you are considering either plumbing work or electrical work please call the building department at 746-0752 and they will give you a list of those who are licensed in our village.
Some of our residents are not aware that when a fence is installed on property a permit is necessary. Regretfully, some fence companies install fences without obtaining permits. If you are faced with this situation, insist that your contractor shows you the fence permit before the job is started.
We are on the eve of our children returning to school. We have seen the signs that say "School Open-Drive Carefully."
This admonition is especially relevant when our children are boarding and getting off school buses.
The plans for the library are moving along. Several meetings have taken place with the architect, who has included the suggestions of the public in these plans.
It is anticipated that another meeting with the public will be held in mid-September.
