James William Cashin, 73, of East Williston, died on May 26, 1998. Born in Brooklyn, he served in the US Navy as the lead signalman on teh USS Chepachet. He worked as a carpenter's apprentice and later built houses in the area. He then worked for the Herricks S.D. where he was promoted to superintendent of the buildings. He retired in 1987.

Mr. Cashin was a volunteer firefighter with the East Williston Fire Dept. He became department chief, chairman of the village board of fire commissioners and village building inspector. He was scheduled to receive a medal honoring his 40th year.

Mr. Cashin was a member of the American Legion, several fire chiefs associations, the Emerald Society, the Knights of Columbus and the VFW.

He is survived by his wife, Jane; his children, Michele Krumholz, Jane Cashin, Mary Cashin, Patrica Blumberg, Charles Cashin and James Cashin; two sisters; and six grandchildren. Firematic and veteran funeral service including a firehouse salute held at St. Aidan's RC Church. Interment St. John's Cemetery.

Jeffre A. Gonzales, formerly of Mineola, died recently. Father of Richard R. Brother of Edwin of Puerto Rico, Jorge, Myriam Rivera and Leyla Dehaseth. Grandfather of Emily. Stepfather of Susan Dyke and Elizabeth Carotto. Arrangements were made by the Dworzanki and Son Funeral Home, Bayonne, NJ. Cremation private.
