I had promised those of you who were concerned about the outcome of our cat, Ricky Do, that I would print a comment in the newspaper. Ricky Do is healthy and safe, purring beside me as I write this letter.
Since February, when Ricky Do disappeared, I have gone through endless hours of walking the streets, ringing bells, posting signs, checking out possible leads only to go home broken hearted. Along the way, I have met some incredible people. I got to see my neighbors in Mineola as compassionate animal lovers. The outpouring of kindness was tremendous. Like when Helen called to say she would pray for the safe return of my cat, or when Dan and Kathy called to say they were feeding a lost cat in hopes of reuniting it with its owner or when Nina's daughter Sarah, would ask her mom everyday if it was okay to look for the cat on her way to school. I want to also thank Mike from Hicksville for making the call and helping the stray animals that pass his way.
I appreciate this kindness and the words of hope and want to formally thank everyone for their time searching and praying. Anyone who has had a pet that they have loved like a family member knows the hard fact of life that one day you will have to face letting them go. One thing I have learned through it all is that no matter what happens, no one can take away the love you have for a pet. I am just so grateful that I get a second chance to hold and love my cat for a few more years. I only hope that these words of faith help mend someone else's broken heart.
I believe we are here to help one another through life and the residents of Mineola helped me believe in the impossible. Thank you for caring Mineola, you truly are a community with a big heart.
