This week saw some important wins for the Mustangs. The varsity baseball team defeated Floral Park in the last game of their series. Sophomore Stanley Smith pitched a complete game to earn his first varsity win. With a week off, the baseball team gets ready for their last two series against Sewanhaka and Bellmore JFK. While it has been a tough year for the team, the boys are looking to finish the season strong.

The varsity girls softball team has regained control of first place with impressive wins over Island Trees and Division. The girls played with confidence behind the strong pitching performance of senior hurler Katie Zunno. They look good for an excellent seed in the county playoffs in a few weeks.

Varsity Baseball Coach, Helms Bohringer would like to announce that the third annual Mineola Baseball Club Golf outing has been scheduled for Friday, June 26, at the Lido Golf Club. This event has proven to be a huge success, and helps to raise money for the baseball team. All residents of Mineola and their friends are invited to play. We especially invite former players and fans of Mineola High School baseball to come out and support the baseball program at Mineola. For information about the outing, call Coach Bohringer at Mineola High School, 739-4183. Excellent hitting by Kerrin Hughes, Kim Rossi, and Maryl Fitzpatrick, combined with superb defense by Erin Sanderleaf and Sue Farrell, allowed Mineola to come from behind and beat Division 17-13. Mineola trailed by one run going into their last at bat, but scored 5 runs in teh top of the seventh. Katie Ueland scored the winning run by tagging up from third on Kim Rossi's fly to centerfield. (Tusinski) Mary Kate was the winning pitcher who did a fine job, especially pitching the entire game in the rain.

Kerrin Hughes went 2 for 4 and scored three runs; Mary Kate Tusinski went 2 for 3 with a triple; and Laura McDonnell and Maria Miller also had hits as JV softball beat Garden City 13-7. Sue Farrell played great in the field as Mary Kate Tusinski and Tara Georges combined pitching for the win.

Also a reminder that the Mustang Varsity Sports Awards dinner is to be held on Tuesday, June 2 at 7 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall in New Hyde Park. All varsity athletes and their families should have received an invitation in the mail by now. For questions, call Awards Dinner Chairman Paul Cusato at 248-0849.
