The opening game of the Albertson Soccer Club's 4th grade Boys' Division was a hotly contested physical match in which the Rangers (Team #4) edged the Bombers (Team #2) by a score of 3-2. Jason Sandler teamed up with Andrew Weiskopff early in the first half to give the Rangers a one goal lead. The Bombers answered with a goal by Jake Epstein assisted by Neil Black and Greg Warren.

Strong play by the Rangers' midfielders, Sol Lieberman and Brandon Lam, and by the Bombers' midfielders, Will Thonson and Effie Samuhi, kept the ball out of both defensive zones during much of the first half. Instrumental in keeping the game close were the Bombers' Jeremy Katz, who launched booming punts from his goalie position, and the Rangers' Aaron Pollack, who made crucial defensive plays. The first half ended in a 1-1 tie.

The second half had Mike Heffez in goal for the Rangers. Michael Rogers' aggressive play and the powerful leg of Eric Wasserman allowed the Rangers to keep the pressure on. Alex Panos played tough at midfield and set up the Rangers' second goal midway through the second half. For the Bombers, Brook Brown and Robert Virzera displayed their versatility by playing all positions, Josh Fagen was fleet of foot at forward, and Greg Mastorakis shored up the defense. Neil Black scoured the field and Greg Warren scored the Bombers second goal with a beautifully lined kick from 15 yards on the right side.

The Bombers put the pressure on in the last few minutes but, in the end, the team play of the Rangers enabled them to come away with the win.

The second game was a well played game that saw the Metrostars (Team #7) in mid-season form, as they resembled a well oiled passing machine in their win over Team #3, by a score of 4-2. The outstanding goaltending of Evan Klonsky (1st half) and David Bayer (2nd half), together with the strong defensive play of Andrew Forrest, Evan Wasserman and Jeremy Grant were unable to stem the constant pressure of the Metrostars, as applied by Giancarlo Ciolino, Adam Figman, John Geager Russell Yarmus and Michael Zeitchek.

Spencer Herman and Michael Hofer each scored a goal for Team #3, and were supported by great contributions from Peter Subaiya and Daniel Marabi. For the Metrostars, JD Maniff was as adept in goal as he was in midfield; Daniel Aeina was a light footed defender; Sam Bernhardt's mean left foot ejected many a ball out of the goal area; and Jason Biegel and Nick Tonini were exceptional at midfield - seemingly everywhere at once.

The next game pitted Teams #4 and #6 against each other in a match made difficult for Team #6 due to the absence of key players and a lack of substitutes on this hot afternoon. Team #6's new defense lead by Steven Figliolia, Ahmed Abdelmonein, John Schwartz and Mostafa Rabbat never gave up, but Team #4 had broad offensive success with goals scored by Adam Singer, Daniel Grauer, Brad Mighdoll, Anand Parikh, Ben Oheb and Josh Tannenbaum. Team #4's tight defense was provided by Joe Chimienti (1st half goalie), Alex Cohen, Kevin Jaylayer, Josh Shabani and David King.

Team #6's brightest moment occurred when Neal Bass scored from the left side with an assist from Timothy Trotter, Justin Stoecher and Alex Babazadeh. Steve Figliolia played valiantly in goal.

The final game in this division was a hard fought match that resulted in a 2-0 win for team #1 over Team #5. The decisive goals were scored by Eli Macanian and Adam Chadroff. For most of the game, team #5 tough defense, lead by Joe Costelloe, Ben Lamazow and Danny Hollenberg were evenly matched against Team #1's offensive thrust spearheaded by Brandon Fried, Andrew Bochner and Brandon Lisogorsky.

Team #5's midfield trio of Harper Jaroff, Jake Shillman and Jason Wilson worked hard to feed the ball to their forwards, Brett Pelton and Adam Cohen. But Team #1's defense - led by Brandon Reiner and supported by David Cervia and Charles Greenberg - kept Team #5 away from the goal area. Stalwart goaltending by Eric Lumpp and Alex Bralower completed an outstanding team effort by Team #1. Stellar performances were turned in by Ross Apfel and Adam Hollander, who shared the goalkeeper duties for Team #5.
