Student Katie Zunno has been chosen as "Athlete of the Year" by the Nassau County Sports Commission. Ronald S. Feingold, Ph.D., awards committee chairman of the Sports Commission, has announced that Zunno will be recognized at the Commission's Annual Awards Dinner on March 23 for her outstanding achievements as an athlete and student. This Awards Ceremony and Dinner will be held at the Chateau Briand Restaurant. Last year's ceremony proved to be a very special event for all in attendance, including sport celebrities, business executives, school and college administrators, coaches, athletic directors and athletes.

The commission sought to select individuals who possess more than exceptional athletic ability in one's sport. The basis for selection was superior sport performance, academic excellence, as well as leadership and/or service to the school and/or community. Other honorees in attendance will include Teresa Weatherspoon (New York Liberty), Julie Krone (jockey) and Wayne Chrebet (New York Jets), plus school and college athletes and coaches. Other past recipients include Donna DeVarona, Julius Erving, Angel Cordero, Nancy Lieberman-Cline, Dennis Oehler, Donna Lipiano and Bobby Nystrom.
