Tom Browne of Jackson Avenue did an enthusiastic job of selling Christmas trees at Bill Hocks on Herricks.
Had the pleasure of meeting Conductor Lou Panacciulli's delightful wife Elaine at the recent Nassau Pops Christmas Concert. Lou did his usual wonderful job playing before a standing room only crowd of 1,400 at Corpus Christi.

Joe McCarthy of Mineola and Hilda Nagler enjoyed a holiday dinner at Davenport Press. Joe and Hilda were sitting just a table away from us. Grace and I were dining with good friends Maryann and Faust Guarino of Oceanside. Maryann is formerly of Mineola.
Al Marino of First Street really does a vigorous job of fast walking exercise around the village.
Bill and Millie Edmunds of Rudolph Road enjoyed dinner at Glenerin. The Edmunds particularly like the music of Tommy Goodwyn and his Irish Ramblers.
Laura Evans shows such enthusiasm in her job as a waitress at the Jericho Diner. Laura has a knack of making everyone she waits on feel special. We knew Laura when she was a waitress at Howard Johnson which used to be on Jericho Turnpike and Herricks Road.
We have a new subscriber, Kathy Murray of Stormsville, NY. She is a graduate of MHS and the daughter of George McCarthy of Mineola. A friend of Kathy's, John McGuire of Park Avenue, Williston Park, treated her to a subscription as a Christmas present.
Ann Walsh has moved north from Georgia to live with her dad, Jim Walsh of Simonson Road.
Al and Dolores Lopez officially closed Jay's Dept. Store as of Jan. 1st. Al, who was born in Mineola, and Dolores had been associated with the store most of their lives. When Al was a young police officer, he used to work at Jay's on weekends. When the founders, Jay and Miriam Bernstein retired, Al bought the business from them. The Lopezeswant to thank all the people who supported them for all those years.
Former Mayor Bob Hinck enjoyed dinner at La Cisterna Restaurant.
We commend the village on replacing the meters behind Jay's Dept. Store. Half of them were out of order. Now the shoppers have additional parking spaces and the village gets increased revenue from the meters.
Doris Flynn of DeMott Street takes her prescriptions to Franwin Pharmacy, now that Knotts has closed. Many former Knotts' customers have gone over to nearby Franwin's.
On a recent trip to the library I met Frank Lynch of Horton Highway and John Paul Reis Macedo, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Macedo of Washington Avenue.
We enjoyed a Christmas goose at the New Hyde Park Inn. Founder Willie Rueck still comes in daily at the age of 90. Willie was 30 years old when he first opened the Inn in 1937. Willie's son and grandchildren are also involved in the business.
Met Mayor Colbert at a recent Islanders game. Neither we nor John brought the Isles any luck as they lost to the Ottawa Senators 4-to-1.
Elena Pospisil of Jerome Avenue likes to shop at the Carle Place Waldbaum's. Elena has lived in the village since 1970.
