The Mineola Red Heat Boys' Under-12 Travel Soccer Team finished the season with an 8-2 record in the Long Island Junior Soccer League and went 12-3 overall.

The Red Heat was led by Peter Marson who had 18 goals, 10 assists, figuring in 28 of the team's 42 goals. Other top contributors to the offense were Chris Olivares (six goals, three assists); Chris Sallie (3-5-8); Jim Francis (4-2-6); Dan Medlock (3-1-4); Matt Shanahan (2-2-4); Vito Errico (1-3-4) and Robert Bridges (1-2-3). Other members of the team who contributed were: Brendan Canavan, Julio Gauto, John Reedy, Peter Smith, Ramon Valente and Chris McNeely.

Repeated rain postponements left the Red Heat not playing any games between Oct. 13 and Nov. 15. Then they finished the season with five games in nine days. They lost 5-0 to West Hempstead and 5-3 to Elmont (losing a 3-1 lead) before winning 3-0 at Hewlett. In the final game, Francis scored into the top-right corner of the net with 10 minutes left in the first half and Marson scored twice in the second half, both on assists from Sallie. Canavan got his fourth shutout.

Fall Teams Capture Many County Awards

The Mineola High School family and community are very proud of their fall post season award winners. These outstanding student athletes have not only honored themselves, but have represented their school and families admirably both on and off the playing field. All of our fall teams did very well in their seasons and every player should be commended for their commitment, and dedication to their team and school.

The players whose pictures appear have distinguished themselves as exceptional athletes in their sport. They rank with the best athletes in the county as judged by the particular coaches associations and the referees. We congratulate them for their extraordinary accomplishment.
