October 21

An 8-year-old little girl reported that a man about 23 years old was at the bus stop on Brushhollow Road, New Cassel. He then walked north on Brushhollow Road.

A 18-year-old male on Roman Avenue, New Cassel asked an 18-year-old female if she wanted to "smoke." She agreed, followed him and once inside the house to he raped and threatened her.

Arrests/Robberies

October 17

The senior citizen house on Westbury Avenue, Mineola, was entered through a rear door resulting in damage to the house.

October 18

A residence on Sylvester Street, New Cassel was entered resulting in the loss of jewelry and a TV.

October 22

A bagel shop on I. U. Willets Road, Albertson was entered through a rear side door, resulting in the loss of a cash drawer filled with currency.

October 23

An investigation by the Narcotics Bureau, in conjunction with the Nassau County District Attorney Office/Burglary Narcotics Bureau, led to the arrest of a man from Texas for allegedly selling firearms to undercover detectives. According to Detective Sorrentiono of the Narcotics Bureau, the 35-year-old Texan was arrested on Union Avenue, Westbury after he exchanged with an undercover narcotics detective six semi-automatic handguns for $6,000 in cash. All six handguns were exchanged with loaded magazines and ammo.

October 24

Third Squad detectives report the arrest of a Hempstead man for an assault that occurred in Hempstead at 2:30 p.m.

According to detectives, a 16-year-old allegedly stabbed three male victims with a knife/razor type of weapon during a melee in the middle of a large crowd of more than 100 youths at the intersection of President Street and Tyler Avenue.

Hempstead and Garden City police officers, with the assistance of police officers from the 1st and 5th Precincts, dispersed the crowd. The weapon was not recovered.

Three male victims ages 15, 16 and 18 were transported to Mercy Hospital for stab wounds to the abdomen. The 16-year-old victim's injuries were the most serious (a partial disembowelment) and he is listed in serious but stable condition.

The 16-year-old was arrested and charged and the investigation is continuing.

The Nassau County Police Department Homicide Squad, in conjunction with Zachary W. Carter, United Sates Attorney for the Eastern District of New York; Assistant U. S. Attorney Gary Brown and James K. Kallstrom, Assistant Director in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in New York, report the arrest of three subjects allegedly in connection with the murder of a doctor who was visiting a friend in Mineola in June. The arrests was a culmination of a joint investigation by detectives assigned to Homicide Squad of the Nassau County Police Department, Special Agents of the Health Care Fraud Unit of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and agents of the Internal Revenue Service, Postal Inspection Service and the Office of the Inspector General of the Department of Health and Human Service. Arrested was a 58-year-old female from Brooklyn; a 26-year-old male from Brooklyn with the same name and a 38-year-old female, from Dix Hills, also with the same last name. Two are charged with murder and use of a firearm. All are charged with conspiring to file false Medicaid claims.

A TV was removed from the patio of a residence on Wentworth Avenue, Albertson.

A residence on New York Avenue, New Cassel was entered through a rear window, resulting in the loss of jewelry.

A construction company on Homestead Road, Searingtown was entered through a side window resulting in the loss of a fax machine.

October 25

A residence on Merillon Avenue, Westbury, was entered through a rear window, resulting in the loss of jewelry.

Leather wallets and bras were removed from the Loehmanns in Westbury.

October 26

Dairy Barn, on Willis Avenue, Albertson, was entered through a rear sliding glass door resulting in the loss of cigarettes.

October 27

A three week investigation by members of the 3rd Squad in conjunction with the Nassau County District Attorney's Office and the New York City Organized Crime Investigations Division, resulted in the arrest of five subjects charged in connection with the distribution of bootleg, videotapes throughout Nassau County. Five males from Brooklyn ranging in ages from 19 to 26 years old were arrested, and seized from the basement of the multiple family residence were 101 VCRs, allegedly used to duplicate pirated tapes and more than 2,000 counterfeit videos. All five defendants were charged with Trademark Counterfeiting, 2nd Degree.

Members of the Nassau County Robbery Squad are investigating a bank robbery that occurred in Carle Place. According to detectives at 5:05 p.m., three employees of the Fleet Bank, Glen Cove Road, Carle Place, exited the bank shortly after closing and were confronted by two male subjects who jumped out of a dumpster located near the rear door. The subjects both identified as 19-25-year-olds, 5 foot 10 inch, wearing ski masks and gloves, displayed handguns and ordered the victims back into the bank where the took an undisclosed amount of currency from an ATM machine.
