Mechanism in Place to Dissolve Villages

A bill with the supposed aim to reduce the property tax burden on New Yorkers by creating a mechanism to eliminate local governments has been signed into law by Governor David Paterson. The law now provides a way to eliminate villages through a petition and village-wide referendum or an act of the county legislature and a county-wide referendum.

The Mineola High School Class of 2009 graduated from high school on Saturday, June 27 with a ceremony at the Tilles Center. Leading the way for the class were Valedictorian Adria DiGiovanni and Salutatorian Brian Langone.

Rain-Soaked Weekend Ends with Exciting Monday Finish

People holding tickets to Thursday’s rain shortened day of golf were treated to a great finish on Monday. On Thursday, golf was halted after just over three hours of play with half of the players not even teeing off. Those fans with tickets were granted entrance to Monday’s conclusion to see 29-year-old Lucas Glover take the trophy after finishing 4-under par.

Wheatley High School students Kieran Lang, Ariel Fieldman and John Haghighi qualified for the New York State track & field championship, led at Syracuse.
