Congratulations to Bob Pike of Plainedge and Margarita Hernandez of Massapequa, each of whom won an award in the 10th annual Heart & Sole 5 Kilometer Run through the streets of Plainview on Sunday morning, July 22.
Massapequa resident and 74-year-old Margarita Hernandez earned the third place award plaque in the women’s 70-74 age group in 1:01:54. While 69 year old Bob Pike took first place honors in the 65-69 age group in 24 minutes flat.
The Run started and finished at the Plainview-Old Bethpage Middle School. A record smashing field of 541 runners and walkers completed the Run as, in its 10th year, the Heart & Sole Run has clearly become one of the more important summer road races in Nassau County.
A big thank you to Race Directors Ric & Kathy DiVeglio of the host Greater Long Island Running Club, whose continuing efforts have made the incredible success of this race possible.
Thank you to Dr. Alan Mensch, Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs for Plainview and Syosset Hospitals, who continues to be the guiding light of ten years of this event, to Nicole Santora of Plainview Hospital & Jackie Marino of Syosset Hospital for their dedicated efforts, and to all the great sponsors, without whose support none of this would be possible.
Thank you to those public servants who showed their support by being on hand for this year’s Heart & Sole 5K: Nassau County Legislators Rose Marie Walker and Judy Jacobs, who are a constant and most welcome presence at most of our Nassau County races, Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos, new Oyster Bay Town Councilwoman Michelle Johnson, and new Oyster Bay Town Clerk James Altadonna.
