Hempstead Bay Power Squadron, a unit of the United States Power Squadrons, will present the new “America’s Boating Course” Version 3 at Wantagh Park beginning Tuesday, July 10 at 7:30 p.m. The class will be held in the community room at the south end of the marina.
“America’s Boating Course,” a boating safety course, incorporates the newest material, including CDs for home use on your computer, and covers boat terms and types, personal watercraft, boat handling, required equipment, safety standards, federal, state and local regulations, aids to navigation, navigation rules, emergencies and marine radiotelephone.
The course is approved by New York State to fulfill the requirement for formal training to operate personal watercraft (PWC). Youngsters 18 years of age and younger are welcome, in order to fulfill the New York State Boating Education requirements, but must be accompanied by an adult. Space is limited so please register in advance to insure your spot.
The course will run for five sessions on Tuesday evenings. The course is designed to be useful for all boaters, from the person operating a personal watercraft to the skipper of a family cruiser or sailing enthusiast. It is approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators and recognized by the U.S. Coast Guard for the National Recreational Boating Safety Program.
